On December 3, 2015, the Slovak Academy of Sciences opened new biotechnology laboratories in Šarišské Michaľany. The new labs are detached offices of Institute of Virology SAS and were built under the project Center for research and development of immunologically active substances, which is financed by the Operational Programme Research and Development.
Director of Institute of Virology Mr. Juraj Kopáček, PhD. took part in opening the labs. His speech emphasized the importance of the application of scientific results into economic practice. Governmentally mandatary for research and development Mr. Pastorek pointed out that the biotechnology industry is characterized by the highest added value and a collaboration between academia and the pharmaceutical industry is this value also.
A two-storey complex consisting of facilities for research, development and laboratories was built in the company Imuna Pharma Šarišské Michaľany. Unique devices for the preparation, development and purification of biopharmaceuticals were procured also. In Slovakia, it is a unique workplace that complies with strict conditions for working in sterile conditions. The labs will create new jobs for scientists.
