Minister Peter Plavčan together with the President of Slovak Academy of Sciences prof. Pavol Šajgalík appointed new members of the Scientific Grant Agency VEGA, who will be, in the coming four years, working in 13 specialized committees and evaluating projects of basic research from universities and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Chairman of the VEGA became prof. František Gáher (area of social sciences) and Vice-Chairman Mr. Peter Múčka (area of technical sciences). The other four members who cover other departments are: prof. Milan Polakovič (area of natural sciences), prof. Peter Fedor (area of agricultural sciences) Dr. Dáša Čížková (area of medical sciences) and prof. René Bílik (area humanities).
Scientific Grant Agency was established in 1996 under an agreement between the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) as an advisory body to the Minister and the Presidency of SAS. Its main task is mutually coordinated procedure for the selection and evaluation of scientific projects based on expert evaluation, which should contribute to the efficient use of funds for science in the conditions of the Ministry and SAS.
