V4 Presidents of Academies of Sciences and representatives of European Commission, source: Slovak Academy of Sciences
On the March 1, 2016, President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) prof. Pavol Šajgalík and Vice President of the SAS Dr. Eva Majková met with the leaders of the academies of sciences of the V4 countries, as well as with representatives of the European Commission in the field of science and research. The meeting was held in Brussels.
The meeting was attended by the president of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Mr. Jiří Drahoš, president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Arts Mr. László Lovász and president of the Polish Academy of Sciences Mr. Jerzy Duszyński. The presidents met with Mr. Carlo Moedas, who is the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation. They discussed the role of science in developing national and European policies.
The presidents also informed about new research infrastructure that has been built from the European structural funds and also discussed its continued sustainability. During the meeting with European Commissioner Mr. Tibor Navracsics (who is responsible for education, culture, sports and youth), they discussed the questions of doctoral training and lifelong learning opportunities offered by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). They discussed the success rate in obtaining ERC grants with the president of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council Mr. Jean-Pierre Bourguignon at the meeting.
In the evening, a conference Visegrad 4 Academy of Sciences - your partners in European research, development and innovation cooperation was held. Individual academies of sciences and their role in European research area were presented at the conference.
