On 30 May 2016, Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic discussed with the European Commissioner Carlos Moedas on common priorities in the field of science and research during the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council. Commissioner Moedas appreciated that the Slovak Presidency chose the theme of support for young researchers in the EU. Furthermore, they talked about the possibilities of developing cooperation over Slovak 2016 Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in particular, about the synergy between the Framework Programme and the European Regional Development Fund. They discussed improving of the framework conditions for science at European and national level. Increasing participation in Horizon 2020 is one of the priorities of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This priority will be discussed at a conference in Brussels on 23 November 2016. The conference is prepared jointly by the European Commission and the Slovak 2016 Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
