On June 23, 2016, the prices of Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) were awarded in the Congress Centre of SAS. The prices were awarded in six categories for science and research, as well as six of prices for the popularization of science. Slovak Academy of Sciences awarded this annual award to mark the anniversary of its founding. The event was opened by President of the academy prof. Pavol Šajgalík.
A team from the Institute of Molecular Biology of SAS working under Dr. Domenico Pangalo was awarded prize for science and research. Prof. Michal Novák from the Institute of Neuroimmunology of SAS, who is dealing with Alzheimer's disease, was another awarded person. Mr. Peter Bystrický, PhD., from the Institute of History of SAS was the third awarded person for his monographs „Dog in mythology, religion and folklore of antiquity and the middle ages”. Awards in the international scientific and technological cooperation received: Marián Janák, PhD., from the Institute of Earth Sciences of SAS, Martin Nosko, PhD. from Institute of Materials and Machine Mechanics of SAS, Dr. Vlasta Sasinsková from the Institute of Chemistry of SAS and prof. Oľga Pecháňová from the Institute of Normal and Pathological Physiology of SAS. Award for young scientists was awarded to Juraj Lieskovský, PhD. (from the Institute of Landscape Ecology of SAS) for the coordination of an international prestigious NASA program.
