Before the start of the financial year, Slovak high schools received a subsidy contract for 2016. The high schools and universities will receive a financial amount of over 451 million Euros, of which EUR 247 million will be intended for education, 149 million Euro for research, development and artistic activities and 53.5 million Euro is earmarked for social support of students.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of Slovak Republic also continues in funding the National Scholarship Programme, supporting academic network SANET and funding the Accreditation Commission and university presentation. In 2016, the universities should have a larger amount of money through a grant system of the Slovak Research and Development Agency – the amount of money for the agency has so far increased by € 3,000,000, while minister Draxler said that the Ministry was able to increase its budget even further, possibly by up to € 9,000,000 from its internal sources.
Quality of universities will have greater weight when allocating subsidies for the next year. Together € 58 million will be allocated according to a comprehensive assessment of universities while well-rated universities will get more money.
